The City Tutors Mentors program connects high school students, college students, recent graduates, early-career professionals, and career changers with volunteer mentors working across a wide range of industries. The program is designed to make career guidance and professional networking accessible, flexible, and personalized.

Unlike traditional mentoring programs, City Mentors allows mentees to choose their own mentor from a curated list based on industry alignment and personal goals. Once connected, mentees and mentors meet on a schedule that works for them. Typical cadence of mentorship is 1 hour per month over 1–3 months. Mentees and mentors can pause or end the relationship anytime and request a new mentee/mentor when their needs change.

The program supports all kinds of professional development needs — from resume and interview support, to navigating internships, job searches, career pivots, or graduate school planning.

Mentorship happens 1:1 over Zoom, phone, or in person. We also host occasional group mentorship events.

City Mentors is part of The City Tutors’ broader effort to create a free learning and career hub that supports New Yorkers in historically underserved communities.

✅ Why become a Mentor?
Mentors help others find direction. You don’t need to have all the answers — just real-world experience and a willingness to share it. Whether you’ve been working for 2 years or 20, you can support someone figuring out their next step. Mentorship is flexible and 1:1. You choose who to work with and how often to meet. By volunteering, you’ll empower someone to grow, build your leadership skills, and be part of a community that’s opening doors for future professionals.
✅ Why become a Mentee?
You don’t need to figure everything out alone — our mentors are here to help. Whether you’re exploring career paths, preparing for your first job, or making a transition, we’ll connect you with someone who’s been there.
Mentors can help you:
- Learn about different industries
- Improve your resume, LinkedIn, and interview skills
- Set and stay accountable to your career goals
- Grow your confidence as a future professional

It’s all free, and you choose the mentor that fits your needs. You can meet once or keep going — it’s up to you.
